Walton “Walt” Hoyt Mosley age 81 of Mena died Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the Oklahoma Veteran Center in Talihina. He was born on Monday, June 2, 1930 to A.L. and Jewell Germany Mosley in Petersburg, Texas.
He was united in marriage to Gerry Harris on May 23, 1952 in Alexandria, Virginia before leaving to serve his county. Walton served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and served in Germany and was assigned to help make topography maps in the 332nd Engr Topo Co Corps. He was very proud of his military service. After the military, Walton did cotton and milo farming for 15 years in Petersburg, Texas. He served on the Petersburg School Board, Gin Board and Oil Mill Board in Lubbock, Texas. He was and elder at the Main Street Church of Christ in Petersburg. Walton moved to Mena with his family in 1968 and in 1969 they became the owners of the Montgomery Ward Catalog Agency for the next 9 years. He was a member of the Northside Church of Christ and served as a former elder for several years. He worked in real estate and served on the Equalization Board for 20 years. Walt loved his family and was very proud of them and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, A.L. Mosley Jr. and one sister, Leota Porter.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Gerry Mosley of the home, one son and daughter in law Steve and Carla Mosley of Mena; one daughter and son in law, Stephanie and Randy Been of Clarksville, Arkansas; one grandson, Nick Mosley and wife Jenna of Athens, Texas; one great grandson, Collin Mosley of Athens, Texas; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at the Northside Church of Christ in Mena with Austin Emery, Steven Morris and Van Ledbetter officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Mena under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. No visitation is planned.
Pallbearers will be Steve Mosley, Nick Mosley, Randy Been, Mark Robbins, Glen Stepp and Bob Keeter. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chuck Kincaid, Larry Atchley, Don Bray, Tim Robbins, Ernie Brown, Jerry Head, Charles Wood, Don Heath, Bob Philpot and A.L. Banta
